The only source

These albums and a few like them were the only digital source of our music for the past more than 30 years.
Through persistence and over time both ATLANTA albums are now available.
It is a great thing to see and hear them once again in their entirety.

Please tell your friends and family if you like our music...due to a lack of digital format it has been mostly forgotten over the past decades, but there is still a loyal audience who is now enjoying it again, and new listeners who have not yet heard it.  SPREAD THE WORD

Another passing...all too soon

Sad news again. Allan Collay ( Callais) our bluesy vocalist and keyboardist passed away today in his sleep, of complicatons from kidney disease.
He was comfortable and had his daughter at his side in the hospital.

Allan was a soulful and talented singer who emulated his idol Ray Charles in a big way. He was lucky to meet Ray at an Atlanta concert in California, an event which no doubt was a big one for Allan.
Discovered by Larry McBride Atlanta's illustrious manager, Collay was an entertainer at many local night spots in and around ATL before joining the band. He recorded st an early age, and got radio play on his first single.

His unusual vocal and keyboard styling helped contribute to the diversity of Atlanta's sound, and though he did not sing too many leads on the recordings, his "You are the Wine" and concert version of "Turn on Your Love Light" were always memorable and different.
We toast Mr. Collay a true original.

Memorial for a friend- Tony Ingram

A few of us that were able to be there, along with crew members, and about 400 other people attended the memorial service for Tony Ingram, our friend, fiddle player, singer and drummer.
Tony had been a music minister these past years, and a leader in a ministry for men with problems.
He touched the lives of so many it was hard to get them all in the room.
He had a son with is first wife Brenda, and two children from his more recent marriage to Crystal.
It was a sad day for all of us knowing the reunion of this band if ever, will be a tribute and fund raiser if it happens at all.
But the message we all got from the speakers and musicians there was one of hope and the sincere belief in something much greater than all of us.

What a guy....Tony Ingram .....lived life BIG!

Atlanta on TV

Atlanta on the Merv Griffin Show

apepeared wtih  Ed McMahon

Monday, December 10, 2007

The band went into the studio in Nashville, and cut a few songs while still a 4 piece. "Atlanta Burned Again Last Night", "Dixie Dreamin'", were both part of this first effort. Recorded by the 4 original members, Atlanta Burned actually broke thru on the charts and into the to ten, settling at #9 in Billboard.

Meanwhile the band was rehearsing in Atlanta for a debut show at what is now the Buckhead Roxy Theatre. Day long rehearsals were held for many weeks to ready the group and the newly hired crew.

The Mayor of City of Atlanta declared the debut day as Atlanta music day, and closed off a section of Peachtree road at the debut venue, the  Buckhead    Roxy theatre.

If you are familiar with the band Atlanta, you know there were 9 ( count 'em) members.
The group at its start had 4. Signing a record deal with MDJ Records of Dallas and Atlanta, the NEW BAND ( actually a 4 member outfit) played the Country Music DJ appreciation party in Nashville, and the "Super Pickers" ( Buddy Emmons, Phil Baugh et al) were backing them up. The suggestion was made to expand he 4 man team and help capture that big sound, so one by one members were added, raising the level of music and versatililty at the same time.
Additional vocals made for 5 lead singers, a super harmonica player and bass singer, two drummers, two keyboards, an electric fiddle, extra percussion, and the twin guitars of Alan and Bill, all made for quite a big sound, and an interesting stage show.
Audiences were constantly surprised by the changes on stage as different guys took the lead, and the style of music also was never the same.
From Tony's big vocals, to Brad's sweet ballads, Bill's different sounding southern style, and Alan's rock n roll roots sound it all added up to a fun show.
Even MCA Record execs were taken aback by the big sounds.
At Harrah's in Lake Tahoe management raved about the group's shows there.
It was a hard act to follow, as many of the artists of the day found out when Atlanta opend for them on the big stages.
